Holidays with Kids

  • We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world!  We have such a diverse range of holiday destinations to choose from.  BC... (Before children) my husband and I were lucky enough to travel a lot overseas, we visited countries like America, Canada, China and Italy just to name a few. When our son was born we put our travel on hold until he turned 3, this is when we started holidaying again... And in 2016 my family and I are dedicated to travelling around Australia in a Caravan.

Now, some of you may need convincing to travel around Australia with your young kids...

But holidays with kids don’t have to be stressful. I’ve done the research and compiled a list of some of Australia’s top spots for holidays with kids...But first here are the 3 things I considered when making this list:

    1. Travel time to Location...

Most kids (and their parents) don’t want to be sitting in a car or at an airport for really long periods of time. That is just not FUN! When choosing a destination consider how long it takes to get there. Can you drive? Do you need to fly? There are of course many ways to keep the kids entertained during the travel time but we will talk about these another time.

    2. Facilities...

This is a biggie for me!  Two questions I always ask before booking a holiday with kids: What is included with the accommodation?  And what is available at the location?  Depending on the type of holiday you want to take will depend on the facilities that are most important to you. Here are a few things that I always like to have on any of our family holidays.

    i. A bath tub or spa, this makes bath time so much easier.
    ii. At least 2 bedrooms
iii. A pool or be close to the beach
iv. Have a playground or park close by
    v. Good value family restaurants with flexible dining options
    vi. Free attractions
You may also consider whether you need time away from your family... You may like a golf course close by or an onsite kids club.

    3. Cost...

This is third on my list of priorities and that is because I would rather go on holidays with my family and really really enjoy it and not have to compromise our living standard while there.  Don’t get me wrong, we don’t always stay in 4 or 5 start resorts but I don’t mind paying extra to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of our stay.

Australia’s top spots for holidays with kids... as voted by ME:

    1. Thredbo NSW.  A family snow adventure that is great for families with muliti skill levels. Thredbo offers a good range of runs from green to double blacks and with some chair-lifts that have runs for different levels.

    2. Sea World Nara Resort and Water Park, Gold Coast QLD. This place is all about family fun!  Luxurious accommodation and unlimited access to Sea Wold including nickelodeon Land equals fun, fun and more fun for the kids and parents!

    3. Murramarang Beachfront Nature Resort, South Durras NSW. A National Park with surfing, fishing spots and walking trails that surround Murramarang and it is only 15 mins from Batemans Bay. This resort is eco-certified and has villas and campsites but also has a kids’ programme and popular activities that are all enviro-friendly. You can surf, snorkel, see a dolphin or just relax.

    4. Paradise Resort, Gold Coast QLD. Family friendly and full of activities like the ZK water park, Z4K kids club an ice-skating rink, rock-climbing wall, laser tag and many play areas.  Accommodation types vary but include separate bedrooms, defiantly a family paradise.

    5. Carnival Cruise Line.  Your kids will never be board on a carnival cruise line ship. They offer supervised kids programs for 3+ and live entertainment, the kids will have heaps of fun. You can sit back relax and enjoy a book, the live shows or join the entertainment crew for a fun exciting cruise.

Remember holidays are supposed to be a time to enjoy with your family and get in some relaxation to rejuvenate and recharge yourself and to create memories with your children to last a lifetime.
